Audience: B2C learners
Level: Intermediate
Duration: 45 minutes
Topic: The Future of Renewable Energy

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify at least four renewable energy sources or related technologies from a short text or infographic.
  2. Describe at least two benefits and two challenges of renewable energy using topic-specific vocabulary.
  3. Compare two renewable energy technologies and support a conclusion with at least two details from the lesson materials.
  4. Recommend a suitable renewable energy plan for a community, including a reliability solution, and justify it with at least two reasons.
  5. Write one evidence-based prediction about renewable energy in 2050.

Success Criteria

Learners can:

  • Accurately name four renewable energy sources or technologies.
  • Explain benefits and challenges clearly.
  • Use evidence rather than personal preference alone.
  • Connect an energy solution to a community’s location and needs.
  • Use the structure: “By 2050, I predict ___ because ___.”

Materials

  • Images or slides showing solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and fossil-fuel energy
  • Short reading or infographic on renewable energy trends
  • Printed comparison charts
  • Printed community scenario cards
  • Exit ticket slips or a digital response tool
  • Board and markers
  • Backup printed image cards and information cards

Lesson Sequence

1. Opening Hook: “Powering the Future” — 4 minutes

Display images of a solar farm, offshore wind turbines, a hydroelectric dam, and a coal-fired power station.

Ask:

  • Which energy source will be most important in 2050?
  • Which source would you want in or near your community?

Learners vote individually and explain their choice to a partner using one reason.

Check for Understanding: Invite two learners to share a prediction and supporting reason.
