A single still stretched over three minutes moved too slowly to read as motion at all. Stills are now split so each gets a visible move, and two or more of them are joined by a crossfade rather than a hard cut. A fade takes time from both sides, so each still is lengthened to keep the video exactly as long as its soundtrack.
