A formula an AI model writes in its answer is now drawn as math on every chat surface of the ToRun web app. Here is what changed, where it applies and what stays as text.

What changed

AI models often write mathematics in LaTeX, the notation scientists use, and mark where a formula starts and ends. A model answering a geometry question might write:

\[
6 \div 2 = 3\ \text{cm}
\]

Until now the web chat drew formulas only when they were marked with double dollar signs. A formula marked with \[ and \], or with \( and \), appeared as raw notation, brackets and backslashes included. Now each of these is drawn as a formula:

  • between \[ and \], or between $$ and $$: a formula on a line of its own;
  • between \( and \): a formula inside a sentence.

A formula may run over several lines, as long as it stays in one paragraph. The mobile app already drew formulas this way, and the web now follows the same rules.

Where formulas are drawn

  • the chat, in every answer, including the part of an answer that arrived before an error;
  • Canvas, in its text view;
  • a chat someone shared with you;
  • the in-app assistant;
  • the try-it chat on ToRun's home page.

What stays text

  • A single dollar sign is never a formula, so a price written with a dollar sign stays as it is.
  • A plain parenthesis is never a formula.
  • Code stays code: nothing inside a code block or a piece of inline code is drawn as math.
  • While an answer is still arriving, a formula appears as text until its closing mark arrives, and is then drawn.
  • Words alone between the marks, as in \[Click here\], stay as words.

If a model answers with formulas written as plain text, ask it to write them in LaTeX.

Also in this update

  • The “Start free” buttons on torun.ai now open the sign-up page instead of the sign-in page. A visitor who opens a friend's invite link sees the invite code at the top of torun.ai and on the sign-up page, and your home page in ToRun shows a card for inviting friends with your personal link.
  • A QR point that ToRun pauses to protect a venue from misuse keeps answering questions it has answered before, from its saved answers, and these answers do not count against the venue's monthly allowance.
  • When a quality check in a workflow makes a video again, the extra video-processing time appears in your billing as a line of its own.
  • For meeting customers, a room can now have camera video, and an invite link shared in a chat app shows an invite card of its own.
